Rutledge Family Farm Sunflower Festival

Rutledge Family Farm Sunflower Festival

We had a great time this last weekend at the Rutledge Family Farm Sunflower Festival! The Sunflower Festival is open for two weekends from 9am-6pm. We went first thing in the morning on Saturday and it was perfect.

When we arrived, we took a tractor ride out to the sunflower fields. This was definitely our youngest’s favorite part of our day!

The sunflower field is broken into three sections: “The Big Field of Yellow” (classic sunflowers), “Field of Beauty” (ornamental sunflowers ranging in colors from white to red), and “Field of Giants” (sunflowers that grow from 9-12 feet tall). We loved walking through all of them! I had never seen such a variety of sunflowers! My favorite was probably a yellow/red one, while my girls liked the pink-is white ones, and our youngest loved the giant ones.

Each ticket includes a tractor ride and one sunflower bloom (you get to cut your own from any of the fields). Additional sunflowers can be purchased as well (you can find ticket and other pricing here). We bought several extra sunflowers (a few from each field) and brought them home to enjoy.

Sprinkled throughout the fields are a few photo ops. The Sunflower Festival is a beautiful place to take pictures, and they even offer special times for photographers.

After we finished picking our flowers, we took the tractor ride back to an area to drop off our shears and pay for any extra flowers. We wandered over to the picnic area and enjoyed the swings while a band set up for live music. Food trucks arrived, making this a great spot to eat lunch after wandering through the sunflowers.

On our way out, we stopped at their produce stand and bought corn and a watermelon to enjoy at home (both were fantastic).

This was a great way to start our weekend. We spent about two hours total, but you could spend even longer if you picnicked afterwards. One word of advice – wear actual shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty! It’s very dusty and our shoes were covered by the end. It’s not a big deal if you have the right shoes, but definitely not a great time to wear sandals. Overall, I definitely think that Rutledge Family Farm’s Sunflower Festival is worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Thank you to Rutledge Family Farm for gifting our family with tickets to their Sunflower Festival. We hope to visit again next year!
