We love the North Shore of Oahu and stayed up there the entire time this trip.
One of our favorite places to visit was Haleiwa, a fun little surfer town that’s not too far from the Polynesian Cultural Center. Below are some of our suggestions when visiting the town with kids.
Nearby Beaches
Obviously there are tons of beaches around here. Some that we enjoy are:

Haleiwa Beach Park
This beach is right next to Haleiwa. It has a nice sandy area along with a more scenic rocky area. It also has some basketball courts and playground that our girls and their cousins enjoyed playing on.
Laniakea (“Turtle”) Beach
This one is a little trickier to find, but is right off of Kamehameha Hwy. I had been here a few times with roommates back when I was a student at BYUH (once we walked down the left side of the beach until we found the set of Lost). I was excited to bring our girls here so they could see sea turtles in the wild.

Waimea Beach
We didn’t go this time, but Waimea is a great, sandy beach. In the winter, the waves can be huge (they host surf contests here), but in the summer, the waves are pretty small and kid friendly.
Food

Rajanee Thai Haleiwa: This is seriously the best Thai food that I’ve ever had! The Pad Thai is especially good. 🙂
Kua Aina Sandwich Shop: Yummy burgers and sandwiches (I like the BLT with avocado).
Banzai Sushi Bar: Try and get a seat on the outdoor patio for a fun experience.
Cholo’s Homestyle Mexican: If you like spicy Mexican food, then check out the collection of hot sauce they have here
Matsumoto Shave Ice: Very popular shave ice location. Try it with a little bit of ice cream!
Shopping
Growing Keiki: A very expensive, but also very cute children’s store.
Surf N Sea: Great stop for all kinds of surf brands (has a good kid selection as well).
There are so many other great places to check out in Haleiwa! It’s definitely worth stopping for an afternoon to wander the stores and to grab a bite to eat!
