After checking out Sandcut Beach, we stopped at our rental for lunch and then headed over to Sombrio Beach, about 40 minutes away by car.
It was a bit tricky to find the turn off (we passed it the first time), but eventually we drove down a gravel road that led to a parking lot. The parking lot is more on the small side, but luckily we didn’t have any problem finding a parking spot.
The trail down to the beach is pretty short and paved. When we came to a fork in the trail, we continued left towards East Sombrio and quickly came to the beach. The beach itself was beautiful and we had fun poking around a bit.
To find the waterfall, we continued to our left and walked for a good 20 minutes or so. We went past some bathrooms and then went around a corner a bit until we came to a little stream. We followed the stream up and back into a beautiful, mossy slot canyon. Luckily we all had shoes on that could get wet! 🙂
We did not have the waterfall to ourselves here. It’s definitely a popular spot, but everyone was very kind and considerate of each other. We still got to enjoy the falls and even had a small break in the crowds to snap a few pictures.
The only unfortunate event was that our four year old was not happy about going into the slot canyon. we made it fine, but he quickly wanted to return back to the beach. Everyone else loved it though and it was such a unique experience!
We spent some time afterwards enjoying the little tide pools full of crabs (our little boy’s favorite part of the day) and overall I would say that the afternoon was a success. Even with it being a more popular spot, it’s definitely still worth a visit!
